Face outline labels and uncertainty
I am cataloguing two old family photographs whose subjects have not yet been identified. One picture is frontal, while the other shows a slight turn and a lower chin. My aim is to record the outline carefully without using it to establish who someone is. I could record the apparent length and width alongside a short description of the jaw. I have bookmarked face shape calculator as a possible comparison reference. Before using it, I would like a sensible way to mark uncertainty caused by pose. Cropping out the hair might help, but I would keep the complete originals alongside any copies. Would a short observation sheet be a reasonable starting point for comparing these portraits? The most useful result would be a transparent note that another relative can review later. The notes should remain understandable without access to our earlier conversation.
