The biggest lesson from the Season 14 Horadric Gem system is that efficiency comes from combining several farming methods. Dedicated fragment runs, fast Sear's Reach clears, and Gold-focused activities each have a place in a sensible routine. Do not salvage high-tier gems simply to recover a small amount of fragments, and do not waste time chasing a particular fragment type when conversion is available. With a little planning, the enormous Flawless Horadric Gem cost becomes much more manageable. Farming D4 Items Efficiently: Horadric Gems and U4N Economy TipsSeason 14 has made D4 items more interesting from an economic perspective because powerful upgrades now compete for the same limited pool of resources. Horadric Gems are a good example. Their crafting system requires enormous amounts of fragments, Gold, and Forgotten Souls, so players need to think beyond simple loot collection. For anyone building around valuable D4 items, the Horadric Gem system can quickly become one of the largest long-term investments. A Flawless Horadric Gem costs 25 million fragments, 250 million Gold, and 7,500 Forgotten Souls. Reaching that point efficiently requires a farming routine instead of random grinding. The Three Resources You NeedThe first step is understanding how the costs build up. A Grand Gem requires 1 million fragments, 10 million Gold, and 300 Forgotten Souls. Five Grand Gems create a Horadric Gem, while five Horadric Gems are required for the final Flawless version. The total investment is therefore much larger than the price of a single Grand Gem might suggest. Players who only look at the immediate crafting cost can underestimate how much farming is required for the complete process. Why Fragment Conversion MattersThe revised fragment conversion system is probably the most useful change for players trying to control their gem economy. At the Jeweler, unwanted fragments can now be exchanged at a 1:1 ratio. A recipe involving 200 fragments allows you to receive 200 fragments of the type you actually want. This means every fragment drop has value. Instead of worrying about whether an activity produces the right color, collect the available fragments and convert them afterward. It is a small change in terms of the crafting interface, but it has a big effect on farming efficiency. You can choose content based on its overall rewards rather than restricting yourself to activities with specific fragment drops. Farm Where the Drop Rates Are StrongHigher Torment difficulties are especially important for fragment farming. Torment 10, Torment 11, and Torment 12 provide much stronger fragment returns than lower levels. For a well-equipped character, Torment 12 is generally the obvious target. However, speed still matters. If your character spends too much time fighting individual packs or frequently dies, dropping one difficulty level can sometimes produce a better hourly result. The goal is not simply to survive the hardest content. The goal is to create a repeatable farming loop with strong rewards and very little downtime. The Nightmare Dungeon Reset StrategyPlayers who want maximum fragment income can use Escalating Nightmare Dungeons with the right setup. Branching Pathways must first be unlocked in the War Plans Nightmare Dungeon tree. Once you are running Escalating Nightmare Dungeons on Torment 12, look for a third layer with Gem Reserve and Dark Omen. Gem Reserve chests can contain up to 270,000 fragments each. Dark Omen can also spawn a Stalking Boss, including The Butcher, which can reward another 750,000 fragments. Rather than completing the entire dungeon, the strategy is to leave the final boss alive. Teleport back to town, enter a nearby normal dungeon such as Sear's Reach, and then return through the existing portal. The third layer can reset, allowing you to farm the same useful setup repeatedly. With favorable conditions, this can generate more than 27 million fragments in less than 40 minutes. A Simple Alternative for Casual FarmingNot every player wants to spend time searching for specific dungeon affixes. Sear's Reach is a much simpler option. The dungeon can be rushed directly to the boss, avoiding most unnecessary combat. The boss guarantees three Royal Gems and has a chance to provide a Grand Gem. Afterward, the Royal Gems can be salvaged at the Jeweler. Ten Royal Gems can provide enough fragments to help create a Grand Gem, making this a convenient route when you want quick, repeatable runs without complicated preparation. Do Not Ignore GoldFragments tend to receive most of the attention because their numbers are so visible, but the 250 million Gold requirement can become a serious obstacle when crafting a Flawless Horadric Gem. Kurast Undercity is useful for this part of the economy. With Gutter Filth selected in the Nightmare Dungeon tree, players can focus on Spirit Beacons and braziers that spawn Portal Pranksters. Their secret chests can contain substantial Gold bundles and Horadric Seals. This makes the activity useful when your fragment stockpile is already strong and your next bottleneck is currency. Avoid Destroying Your ProgressSalvaging a Horadric or Flawless Horadric Gem is rarely worth considering. The return can be only 1 million fragments, which is tiny compared with the original investment. A player who destroys a completed gem to solve a temporary fragment shortage can erase a large amount of progress. Store valuable gems safely and make your crafting decisions with the final build in mind. Build a Repeatable RoutineOnce your resource needs are clear, you can rotate between different activities instead of repeating the same content endlessly. Use Escalating Nightmare Dungeons when fragments are the priority, Sear's Reach when you want quick gem-related runs, and Kurast Undercity when Gold needs attention. If your crafting budget is the main problem, players may consider ways to buy Diablo 4 Gold while keeping their overall spending aligned with their upgrade goals. The important part is avoiding waste and knowing exactly how much Gold is still required before committing to the final gem upgrades. The Long-Term GoalThe Horadric Gem system rewards players who plan several steps ahead. Rather than spending every resource as soon as it becomes available, maintain separate targets for fragments, Gold, and Forgotten Souls. The 1:1 conversion system makes fragment management much easier, while high-Torment farming gives dedicated players a reliable way to build a large stockpile. Combine that with efficient Gold farming, and the path toward a Flawless Horadric Gem becomes much more predictable.
