For a personal game project, I need a cast whose faces remain distinguishable in tiny portraits. The portraits lose fine detail when scaled down, so I am paying more attention to their outlines. Different outlines would help, but I do not want a shape category to determine a character’s temperament. I found a face shape quiz while collecting vocabulary for my sketch notes. I would treat those terms as a loose design reference rather than a complete system for building faces. A useful sketch sheet might change forehead and jaw proportions without changing the pose or expression. The next step would be checking the portraits at game size, where some distinctions may become less visible. The labels would remain a private organizing aid, while players would simply see the finished character designs. Does anyone use a practical sketch exercise to separate face shape variation from familiar personality stereotypes? |
